Há 50 anos, quando eu era um menininho, a televisão engatinhava no Brasil. Não havia filmes e seriados produzidos aqui. Assim, consumíamos as produções americanas com apetite. Bonanza, o homem de Virginia, Lancer, Rim Tim Tim, viagem ao fundo do mar, túnel do tempo, quem não se lembra? Esses filmes, essas mensagens, faziam a propaganda de um povo bravo, sério, amante da democracia e da liberdade. Dava inveja. Eu queria ser americano, quem não quereria? A chegada do Homem, digo, dos americanos, à lua parecia coroar essa grande nação como exemplo de tenacidade, capacidade e liderança. O tempo foi passando, o mundo se complicando, veio a guerra fria, a queda do muro de Berlim e o declínio da União Soviética. Tudo parecia perfeitamente armado para que os Estados Unidos se tornassem a única potência mundial e fortaleza da liberdade. Os acontecimentos de 11 de setembro de 2001, que alguns contestam, serviram de desculpa para que o governo Bush passasse por cima da ONU e invadisse um indefeso Iraque. Tudo por petróleo, não por justiça ou liberdade. A podridão política encontrou a econômica e assistimos estupefatos ao desabamento da maior economia do mundo, cujos alicerces estavam fincados em um lodo de irresponsabilidades, ganância e mentiras. A chegada da cavalaria, com a bandeira de listas vermelhas, já não inspira esperança, mas o medo. Mesmo a eleição de Barak Obama, que é um bom homem, não foi capaz de incutir na cabeça dos americanos, que o mundo está mudando e o papel dos Estados Unidos também está. Poucos entenderam a mensagem central da campanha de Obama "change" (mudança). Os recentes acontecimentos relacionados com o Wikileaks, o qual está sendo perseguido política e economicamente, não por ser ilegal ou falso, mas, porque colocou a nu a fragilidade e a falsidade da política externa americana, são de estarrecer. Acusações bizarras de abuso sexual, contra o fundador do site, se misturam ao acovardamento da imprensa internacional que finge não ver o maior atentado contra a liberdade de expressão, desde o surgimento da internet. A situação é grave e horripilante. Os Estados Unidos perderam o rumo e, ao invés de serem a fonte do conhecimento, da técnica e da liberdade, se afundam em um mar de preconceitos, intolerância religiosa, mentiras e sonhos de potência hegemônica capaz de comprar o mundo com a sua moeda falsa. “Justice and liberty for whom?” (Justiça e liberdade para quem?) Há muito, não quero ser americano. Pois, os americanos, há muito, não podem andar pelo mundo de cabeça erguida. Que triste. The situation is serious and scary. The United States lost their way and, instead of being the source of knowledge, technology and freedom, are sinking in a sea of prejudice, religious intolerance, lies and dreams of a hegemonic power able to buy the world with their counterfeit. "Liberty and Justice for Whom?" Long ago, I do not want to be American. Well, Americans long ago, cannot walk the world head on. How sad.
