            “Que país é esse?”

Nos últimos tempos, tenho pensado muito sobre o que é democracia. Não posso aceitar a tese defendida por Lula, Chávez e outros, de que basta haver eleições para que possamos dizer que há democracia. Não é bem assim. Na Venezuela, no Irã, só como exemplos, há eleições, no entanto, não podemos considerar que há democracia, nestes países.

            A definição de democracia passa, na minha opinião, necessariamente, dentre outros conceitos, pela igualdade de oportunidades para todos, pela submissão de todos às leis e pela liberdade de expressão. Como podemos observar, no Brasil, dois destes conceitos não são atendidos convenientemente, ou seja, não há igualdade de oportunidades e não há submissão do todos às leis. Quanto à liberdade de expressão, ela existe, no Brasil, mas constantemente vem sendo ameaçada, por investidas dos governos e de algumas instituições políticas e religiosas.

            Caminhando um pouco mais, chegamos ao nosso sistema eleitoral. Que coisa esquisita, a forma, a fôrma, com que caminhamos para as próximas eleições. Não há debate. Não há confronto de ideias.  Os eleitores, ao invés de acompanharem os debates internos nos partidos, associações, sindicatos e nas ruas, se limitam a conferir os resultados das pesquisas das más intenções de votos, com candidatos escolhidos por caciques partidários. Assim, nos apresentam um cardápio indigesto, mesmo quando servido no inverno, tutu de feijão com carne seca ou virado à paulista.

            Podemos votar sim. Podemos escolher quem nos representará. Mas, quem escolhe os candidatos? Por que, pelo que tudo indica, seremos obrigados a escolher entre Dilma e Serra? Em um país de 200 milhões de habitantes, por que sempre os mesmos? Um amigo no twitter me disse: “Agora é a vez do Serra”. Vez de que? Já temos uma fila de pessoas definidas que vão assumindo os cargos e a população só homologa? Sem mencionarmos as urnas, nas quais não podemos confiar. É tudo fingimento?

            É inadmissível que, depois de todos os escândalos, mensalões, a intervenção indecente de Lula no caso Sarney, do vexame do Mercadante e dos recentes escândalos que todos os dias aparecem nas manchetes dos jornais, o PT não veja como necessária uma profunda e ampla discussão interna, a qual analise o que foi o Partido, no que se transformou e qual o seu papel para o futuro. É um absurdo que o presidente Lula simplesmente pegue Dilma pelo braço e decrete que ela é a candidata do partido, da coligação, e pronto. Todos dizem amém.

            O PSDB, por seu turno, impinge um candidato que não representa sequer uma esperança de que a administração pública tome o caminho da eficiência de das prioridades. Acostumados a fazerem essa “oposição blasé”, ridícula e acomodada, agora apresentam um candidato cuja postura está mais para companheiro de chapa do que para oposição. Temos visto Serra, Dilma e Lula aos abraços e beijinhos que, muito antes de mera educação protocolar, revela o clima de acomodação com o qual, pretendem levar a campanha, para frente.

            Uma vez que não se poderá criticar a condução da economia, mesmo porque ela é, em grande parte, herdada do governo FHC, só restaria aos outros candidatos criticar a postura moral e ética do governo Lula. Terá Serra a coragem de criticar a postura moral e ética do governo Lula? Terá Serra a coragem de dizer que, seu governo, moral e eticamente, é e será diferente do governo Lula? Será que desta vez o candidato do PSDB terá a coragem de questionar o uso dos cartões corporativos da Presidência da República?

            Realmente essa democracia brasileira não servirá para avançarmos na direção e na velocidade necessárias. Garanto que após alguns dias, caso Serra seja infelizmente eleito, estaremos dirigindo a ele as mesmas críticas que hoje dirigimos ao presidente Lula. Não há diferença substancial entre Dilma e Serra. Os dois são estatizantes, autoritários, empregadores públicos, e o governo Serra padece das mesmas doenças das quais padece o governo Lula.

            Eu, desta vez, não vou engolir a tese de votar no “menos pior”. Chega! Estamos votando no “menos pior” há anos e percebemos que nada muda no comportamento dos políticos, que nos conduziram para essa situação de total descrédito nos poderes da República. A nação assiste estupefata a essa interminável sucessão de escândalos, desmandos, roubalheira e desfaçatez.

            Nunca pensei que chegaria a isto, mas, confirmada essa palhaçada, Dilma X Serra, vou praticar e defender o voto nulo, como única forma de protesto contra essa falta de vergonha nacional, sem me esquecer de questionar, também, as urnas eletrônicas. Uma coisa é certa: Homologar essa pantomima, eu não vou. “Que país é esse?”

            Após a visita da secretária de Estado, Hillary Clinton, o governo Lula resolveu comprar uma briga com os Estados Unidos, por conta dos subsídios agrícolas. Estamos, no momento, em negociações. Caso as retaliações sejam realmente aplicadas, vamos torcer, para que o consumidor brasileiro não seja prejudicado e as relações com os americanos não sejam ainda mais abaladas, tendo em vista o posicionamento do governo Lula quanto à Venezuela, Cuba e Irã.

            Obama conseguiu aprovar sua reforma na saúde. A assinatura de Obama na nova lei, não é o fim de um processo, mas o seu início. Esta reforma, menos pela sua operação e mais pelo seu sentido, irá provocar uma grande discussão, entre as duas metades que compõem o povo americano, sobre seus valores e sobre qual serão os Estados Unidos que eles construirão daqui para frente. No dia da aprovação da lei, ouvi um comentário de Arnaldo Jabor, no jornal da Globo. Ele disse que a aprovação da lei representava uma vitória sobre uma direita cruel, que obrigava a todos serem vencedores e que descartava aqueles que não conseguiam atender a esses padrões. Ele chamou essa parte da sociedade americana de “direita clássica”. Aliás, anotou que, no Brasil, não temos essa “direita clássica”. As opiniões de Jabor são sempre respeitáveis, no entanto, isso não quer dizer que ele sempre está certo. Chamaria a atenção de Jabor, para o fato de que essa mentalidade da “direita clássica” americana, ou seja, todos devem ser vencedores, os “number one” (1) em tudo, foi responsável pelo fato dos Estados Unidos chegarem a ser a potência que são. Aqui, como não temos essa preocupação, estamos sempre esperando pela ajuda do Estado e que a incompetência geral seja neutralizada por alguma política pública, os resultados são outros, nada auspiciosos. A própria natureza criou a regra do “que vença o melhor”. Essa regra só foi aplicada com seriedade em poucas nações, como a Grécia, Roma (durante algum tempo), na Inglaterra e nos Estados Unidos, até o socorro aos Bancos e empresas falidas. Não é por acaso que se tornaram grandes nações. Assim, ao se aplicar sobre Estados Unidos a política do “Estado que salva a todos”, os resultados poderão decepcionar. Prefiro acreditar nas boas intenções de Obama. Prefiro acreditar, também, que as atuais políticas adotadas nos Estados Unidos são uma resposta temporária à crise. De qualquer forma, o debate apenas começou e, os americanos terão que definir, se os Estados Unidos do futuro será uma terra de vencedores ou de acomodados. Os americanos terão que se perguntar, também: Que país é esse?

            Também no âmbito internacional, penso, até quando a comunidade internacional vai assistir calada aos absurdos praticados por Hugo Chávez? Outra incógnita é: Até quando os venezuelanos vão aturar esse indivíduo que, põe seus projetos pessoais, acima dos interesses nacionais e do bem estar da sua população? Chávez deve ser convidado a se juntar ao senhor Zelaya.

            Na economia, acho engraçado quando ouço alguns comentários afirmando que estamos na “pós-crise”. Que falda de percepção. A crise está apenas começando. Compreendo que os economistas, comentaristas e jornalistas procurem ser otimistas e manter o moral das pessoas elevado. Mas, todos sabem que o atual modelo econômico está esgotado. A economia baseada na produção de automóveis não poderá prosseguir para sempre. As cidades concebidas para atender ao tráfego de carros terão que ser reformuladas, o comércio internacional baseado no Dólar precisa ser reformado, um governo/administração planetária precisa ser instituído e, as questões relativas à preservação do Meio Ambiente, precisam se tornar uma espécie de religião, cuja única catedral será o planeta. É melhor damos seguimentos a esses assuntos de forma organizada, planejada e negociada, do que sermos obrigados a reagir, às pressas, impulsionados pela urgência e gravidade dos fatos. No mais, parece que tudo está no piloto automático.

            Já estamos no funil.

"What country is this?"

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about what is democracy. I cannot accept the argument put forward by Lula, Chavez and others that having election so we can say that there is democracy. Not quite. In Venezuela, Iran, just as examples, there are elections; however, we cannot consider that there is democracy in these countries.

The definition of democracy is, in my opinion, necessarily, among other concepts, equal opportunities for all, submission of all to the laws and freedom of expression. As we can see, in Brazil, two concepts are not treated properly, they are, there is no equality of opportunity and there is no submission of all to the laws. Freedom of expression, it exists in Brazil, but has been constantly threatened by attacks of the government and some political and religious institutions.

Walking a little more, we come to our electoral system. What a strange, shape, mold, we move on to the next election. There is no debate. There is no clash of ideas. The voters, instead of the internal debates in political parties, associations, unions and the streets they merely see the results of research from the evil intentions of votes, with candidates chosen by party bosses. Thus, they are presenting an indigestible menu, even when served in the winter, tutu bean with dried meat or Sao Paulo turned (1).

We can vote yes. We can choose who will represent us. But who chooses the candidates? Why, by all appearances, we will be forced to choose between Dilma and Serra? In a country of 200 million people, why always the same? A friend told me on twitter: "Now is the time of Serra”. Than that? We already have a queue of people, which go at the positions and the population only endorses? Not to mention the polls, in which we cannot trust. Is it all fake?

It is unacceptable that after all the “mensalões” scandals (2), the indecent intervention of Lula in the Sarney case, the shame of Mercadante and recent scandals that appear every day in the headlines, the PT (3) will not see it as necessary a deep and broad internal discussion, which analyze what was the party in what has become and what its role in the future. It is absurd that President Lula just get Dilma arm and decree that she is the candidate of the party, the coalition, and ready. They all say amen.

The PSDB (4), in turn, impinges on a candidate who is not even a hope that the government takes the path of the efficiency and of the priorities. Accustomed to do this "blasé opposition" ridiculous and accommodated, now have a candidate whose stance is more for running mate than to the opposition. We have seen Serra, Dilma and Lula in middle of the hugs and kisses that, long before mere protocol education reveals the climate of accommodation to which plan to take the campaign forward.

Since they cannot criticize the conduct of the economy, not least because it is largely inherited from the FHC government (5) would be left to the other candidates to criticize the moral standing and ethics of the Lula government. Will Serra have the courage to criticize the moral and ethical stance of the Lula government? Will Serra have the courage to say that his government, morally and ethically, is and will be different from the Lula government? Is this time for the PSDB candidate to have the courage to question the use of corporate cards of the Presidency?

Actually that Brazilian democracy will not serve to advance in the direction and speed needed. I guarantee that after a few days, if Serra is unfortunately elected, he'll be heading to the same criticism as now headed to President Lula. There is no substantial difference between Dilma and Serra. Both are statist, authoritarian, public employers and the government Serra suffers from the same disease of which suffers the Lula government.

I, this time, I will not swallow the argument to vote for the "least worst". Enough! We are voting for the "least worst" for years and realize that nothing changes in the behavior of politicians who have led us to this state of total disbelief in the powers of the Republic. A stunned nation watches this endless succession of scandals, mismanagement, thievery and audacity.

I never thought it would come to this, but confirmed this farce, Dilma X Serra; I will practice and defend the invalid vote, as the only form of protest against the lack of national shame, and not also forgetting the question of the electronic voting machines. One thing is certain: To approve this pantomime, I will not. "What country is this?"

After the visit of Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, the Lula government decided to buy a fight with the United States, on behalf of agricultural subsidies. We are currently in negotiations. If the retaliation are actually implemented, we hope, that the Brazilian consumer be not harmed, and relations with the Americans be not further damaged, with a view to positioning of the Lula government as to Venezuela, Cuba and Iran

Obama passed his health care reform. The signing of Obama in the new law is not the end of a process, but the beginning. This reform, less for its operation and more for your sense, will cause a big argument between the two halves that make the American people about their values and on what will be the United States that they will build from now on. On the adoption of the law, I heard a comment by Arnaldo Jabor, at TV Globo newspaper. He said the bill's passage was a victory over a “vicious right”, which required to all, be winners and which rule out those who could not meet these standards. He called this part of American society of "traditional right". Moreover, he noted that in Brazil, we have not this "traditional right". Jabor's views are always respectable; however, this does not mean he is always right. I would refer, Jabor, to the fact that the mentality of the American "traditional right", all be winners, the "number one" at all, was responsible for the fact that the United States come to be the power they are. Here, as we have not this concern, we are always waiting for help from the state and the general incompetence is offset by some public policy, the results are different, not auspicious. The very nature created the rule of "the best wins." This rule was applied seriously in a few nations such as Greece, Rome (for a while), England and the United States, to the relief of the banks and bankrupt companies. It is no accident that they became great nations. Thus, when applying on United States the policy of "State to save all", the results may disappoint. I prefer to believe in the good intentions of Obama. I prefer to believe, too, that the current policy adopted in the United States is a temporary response to the crisis. Anyway, the debate has just begun and the Americans will have to define if the United States of the future will be a land of winners or accommodated. The Americans will have to ask themselves, too: What country is this?

Also at the international level, I think, even when the international community will watch quietly the absurdities committed by Hugo Chavez? Another unknown is: How long the Venezuelans will put up with that guy that puts his personal projects, above national interests and welfare of its population? He is expected to be invited to join Mr. Zelaya.

In economics, I find it funny when I hear some comments saying that we are in the "post-crisis." What foothills of perception. The crisis is just beginning. I understand that economists, commentators and journalists seeking to be optimistic and keep people's spirits high. But everyone knows that the current economic model is exhausted. The economics of production of cars cannot go on forever. Cities designed to meet the traffic cars will have to be changed, international trade based on the dollar needs to be reformed, a government / planetary administration needs to be established, and issues relating to the preservation of the environment, need to become a kind of religion whose the only cathedral will be the planet. It is better to give follow-up to these issues in an organized, planned and negotiated way, than be forced to react hastily, driven by the urgency and seriously of the facts. In all, it seems that everything is on autopilot.
